These two nations are side-by-side, with their history being very similar. So why are they warring?
One reason is because of religion. Israel is Jewish, while Palestine is Muslim. This causes a lot of religious tension. Also, the city of Jerusalem is the capital of Israel and the holy city for Christians, Jews, and Muslims. So Palestine claims it as their capital. Who wouldn’t want their religion’s 1st/3rd holiest city as their capital? To settle this, the United Nations gave half of Jerusalem to Israel and the other half to Palestine, but both countries claim the entirety of the city.
Another reason is that it is difficult to move from one city to another in Palestine. Because of all this conflict, the country is, geographically, split in two.
This results in a whole lot of Israeli territory that people have to travel through, and Israelis do not like Palestinian passports.
A third reason is because of territory. Many people in both countries believe that their country is the rightful descendant of the British Mandate of Palestine. This leads to both sides thinking that all of the total territory should be theirs. Israel has control over much of the UN-recognized Palestinian territory, and has built many cities and towns in the area.
So, how does this conflict affect the world? Well, because of it, many people have fled both countries and become refugees. There are many protests around the world in support of Palestine. Who knows what will happen next? Only time will tell.
