Introduction

The Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2024 marked a significant milestone in the tech industry, as Apple unveiled multiple groundbreaking changes, including a much anticipated one, AI. In this article, we will delve into the key announcements made by Apple at WWDC 2024, and how these changes have impacted the user experience.

macOS 16

Firstly, Apple introduced macOS 16 (also known as macOS Sequoia), the latest version of Apple's desktop operating system. macOS 16 guarantees an easier user experience by including overhauled interface designs, improved multitasking, and more secure privacy measures to protect users’ data. They have also introduced more tools, such as machine learning platforms, and spatial experiences, to help developers create their own macOS apps.

iOS 18/iPadOS 18

Apple also unveiled iOS 18, the newest version of its mobile operating system. iOS 18 brings many new features and improvements to iPhone and iPad users, including enhanced customization options, improved communication, redesigned widgets, and a more intelligent Siri experience. These new customization features include the further customization of the lock screen, the control center, and the icons on the home screen. You can also place icons anywhere on a page, and may also tint these icons to any color. One monumental feature is that users may now send messages over satellite, even without a cell phone signal. They will also (finally) introduce RCS messaging on iPhones, allowing for a better texting experience between Android and iOS users, including reactions, message editing, replying, and read receipts. On the iPads, they will introduce a more enhanced calculator with Math Notes as well. Math Notes will be able to evaluate expressions and solve complex equations as you write them in using Apple Pencil or a keyboard.

watchOS 11

watchOS 11 introduces an easier way to monitor vital health parameters such as blood oxygen levels, heart rate, respiration rate, and length of sleep using the new Vitals app. Apple Watch analyzes these indicators and can identify when a statistic is outside of its regular range. Users can get a notification when two or more measurements are abnormal, along with a message explaining how these particular measures' changes may affect other elements of their lives.

Apple Intelligence

Apple also introduced a groundbreaking feature called Apple Intelligence, their implementation of artificial intelligence. This technology uses AI and machine learning algorithms to provide personalized assistance and predictive capabilities across the macOS and iOS ecosystems. Apple Intelligence enables seamless integration between different devices, allowing users to access information and perform tasks more efficiently. New features include writing tools that can help you rewrite, proofread, and summarize things like emails and other messages, original emoji and image creation, and more. Going hand-in-hand with original image generation is a new feature called Genmoji, which allows users to create unique emojis by typing in descriptions and requirements.
