Major Flooding Sweeps Eastern Kentucky

Here’s another one of our latest articles! You can read it below or on the website here: theweeklynews0.wixsite.com/yourweeklynews/major-flooding-sweeps-eastern-kentucky

On July 24th, torrential rain swept the nation, with floods reaching many cities across several states. However, the worst flooding was in the Greater St. Louis area, southwest Virginia, parts of West Virginia, and the east south-central state of Kentucky. Specifically, in the eastern portion of it. You can also see a gallery of pictures of the disaster at the end of the article.

On July 27th, major floods struck Kentucky, and a day later, 8 bodies had been found already. The governor, Andy Beshear, warned that the death toll will rise, and it did. The death toll rose every day, and by August 1, it was 25, and it finally reached a total of 37.

The governor warned that it would probably rise more and he expected “hundreds more homes” to be destroyed as more rain was forecasted for the week, and he was right. He also announced that, in his words, “This is by far the worst flooding disaster at least of my lifetime in Kentucky.” He also said that it was one of the most devastating flooding events in the state’s history, and many people who lost family members would probably agree with him.

The Appalachian Mountains had seen floods before, but not like this. It rained and rained until the soil couldn’t take any more, resulting in mudslides and making roads impossible to drive on.
