The death toll after a recent earthquake in China continues to rise, and it has caused millions of dollars in damages. The quake measured at 6.2 magnitude on the Richter scale and mainly affected the provinces of Gansu and Qinghai, with Gansu being the hardest hit. 149 people have been confirmed dead and hundreds more are wounded, and over 200,000 homes were destroyed. Due to the quake striking a rural area, many of the homes were not built to be earthquake-resistant, which increased the damage. This is one of the area's worst earthquakes in years, and it will take a long time to recover. However, rescue efforts are still finishing up to rescue any remaining survivors.
