Extreme heat continues to plague the United States and Europe, with over 55 million Americans expected to see 100ºF (37.7ºC)+ temps in their area over the next week. In the southwestern US, the city of Phoenix has experienced temperatures over 100ºF (37.7ºC) for every day this month, and it could reach over 118ºF (47.7ºC) this weekend. Also, in Death Valley, California, temps could even hit 130ºF (54.4ºC) Meanwhile, one person has died and many others have been injured due to heat stroke in Europe. Italy has received the brunt of the heat so far, with temperatures in Rome expected to reach 113ºF (45ºC).
On the other hand, monsoon rains are bringing serious flooding to northern India in Asia. Monsoon season is a yearly occurrence in South Asia, but this year seems to be worse than normal. The Yamuna River has also flooded, breaking water level records. Thousands have been forced to evacuate as cities like New Delhi start to experience flash floods, and many officials are now seeking the help of the army.
All of these extreme weather events are just more signs that climate change continues to worsen and affect our environment, and they will become more common and more severe if we don't work to stop it.
