Canadian wildfire smoke is picking up once again, with the smog billowing into the United States from Canada. The fires are raging in the provinces of British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, and Quebec, and the Northwest Territories as well. Fire danger is also extremely high in the Northwest Territories, British Columbia, Alberta, and Saskatchewan. Two firefighters have died fighting the flames, and over 120,000 people have been displaced as the fires burn over 25 million acres (10 million hectares).
Also, heat continues to plague the globe as fires erupt in other locations around the world, mainly Italy and the rest of southern Europe. Temperatures could set records in the area today, with Rome expected to hit 106ºF (41.1ºC), and Italy has issued a red alert for extreme heat in 16 cities. Meanwhile, Death Valley in California (USA) reached 128ºF (53.3ºC) on Monday, which is just a few degrees lower than the world record (which was also set in Death Valley): 134ºF (56.6ºC) in 1913.
Lastly, there were multiple injuries in Stage 15 of Tour de France on Sunday, where a fan trying to take a selfie accidentally stepped onto the bike track; and that didn't end well! A biker hit their foot right after, sparking a pileup crash at the scene. One biker even replied to an interview saying that they fell 'like skittles' after the first biker crashed.
