Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2024 has kicked off, and Apple has made some big announcements. The main topic was that Apple is bringing AI to the iPhone, with the integration of ChatGPT and some cool Generative AI features coming to the iPhone 16.
Siri will now have:
Recall photos-- With a couple of keywords, Siri can recall any photo in your library, no matter how long ago.
Pull up information across apps-- Siri can now pull up any information across your apps, varying from a detail in a three-year-old email to your most urgent reminders this week .
Better conversation-- Siri will have richer language features, enabling smoother conversation and more ways to assist you.
A new look-- Instead of a moving circle on the bottom of your screen, Siri will now be a moving rainbow ring around the edge of it. Also, with a double tap at the bottom of your screen, you can now type to Siri instead of speaking out loud if you want to.
More product knowledge-- If you don't know how to do anything on your phone, just ask Siri, and it will give you detailed, step-by-step instructions on how to do the task.
Here's everything else Apple Intelligence can do:
Prioritize emails and notifications-- AI can prioritize your emails, highlighting the ones you urgently need to reply to, and prioritize notifications to tell you the most important things what you've missed. The addition of a new Focus called Reduce Interruptions will be like Do Not Disturb but it will allow important notifications to come through.
Create Genmojis-- You can now create your own emoji with a couple of keywords and save that emoji to use it wherever you want.
Create images-- With some keywords or a quick sketch, Apple Intelligence can create whatever image you want using the new Image Playground app.
Reminders across apps-- Apple Intelligence can find urgent events across apps and remind you of them, like sending you a notification to remind you of a flight the next day.
Create your own memory movies-- Using Apple Intelligence, you can enter some keywords and it can gather all of the photos you are referring to in order to create a customized memory movie within the Apple Photos app!
Clean up photos-- AI will now be able to remove distractions from photos, creating the best photo possible.
Various other actions across apps-- Apple Intelligence can also do lots of other things across apps, ranging from summarizing a long email to creating a smart reply to a text you received. If you have an audio recording of a call or a lecture, it can summarize that, too.
Writing tools-- The biggest of all of the new features are the new writing tools. AI will be able to proofread and change your tone of writing, and with the help of ChatGPT, it can even turn detailed instructions into a professional essay or article. It can summarize entire essays or give you the highlights of a long group text that you missed. These writing tools will be available anywhere on your phone that you write, not just Apple apps.
However, there's only one catch to Apple Intelligence-- it's not available on old devices. Apple Intelligence will only be available in beta in the fall on Apple's iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, the iPad Pro (M1 chip and later), the iPad Air (M1 chip and later), the MacBook Air (M1 chip and later), the MacBook Pro (M1 chip and later), the iMac (M1 chip and later), the Mac mini (M1 chip and later), the Mac Studio (M1 Max chip and later), and the Mac Pro (M2 Ultra).
