World's Best Airports 2024

By Armaan Dhawan

Skytrax has released their annual list of the world's top airports, with Doha's Hamad International taking this year's number 1 spot. Singapore's Changi International, last year's winner, dropped down to second, while Seoul's Incheon International and Tokyo's Haneda International swapped places.

Changi Intl. is well-known for its world-renowned green space, Jewel Changi. It consists of a massive glass dome with a tropical rainforest inside, similar to the rainforests surrounding the city of Singapore. This space, designed for wellness and full of amenities ranging from an AR dinosaur adventure to a hedge maze, is a unique icon of Singapore in itself, and is what normally powers the airport to the top spot-- it has won the coveted award a total of 12 times.

However, Doha's addition of the Orchard, its own green space, this year took them ahead of Changi. The Orchard is a sustainable area with a grid shell glass roof within the main concourse of the airport consisting of a large rainforest and lots of retail with bridges snaking through it all. There is a tropical garden with a water feature as well, and the entire area has a total of 300 trees of 30 different species and 25,000 plants and shrubs of 90 different species. The area is designed to instill peace and tranquility to visitors and allow them to relax, rejuvenate, and recharge while also including over 65 retail and dining experiences. The addition of this, along with the rest of their Phase A expansion plan, has taken them to the top this year.
