World's Most Connected Airport

When people think of the world's best-connected airport, they might think of Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson, the world's busiest airport, or maybe Doha's Hamad International, the world's best airport. Actually, new data has revealed that the world's best-connected airport is, in fact, Istanbul Airport in Turkey.


IGA Istanbul Airport, or IST, is the main airport serving Turkey including the 15.8 million people that live in the Istanbul area. The airport opened in 2018 and has quickly become extremely busy, ranking as the world's seventh-busiest airport in 2023. It served a total of 76 million people last year, most of which were flying on the country's own Turkish Airlines.


The airport's perfect location between the western and eastern worlds allow it to provide flights to 309 different destinations, the most of any airport. Turkish Airlines is also the world's best-connected airline, flying to 130 of the world's 195 countries across every continent except Antarctica.
