Presidential Candidates
2024 is bound to be an interesting, exciting, and very consequential election year. To select a president, however, you must know what issues they prioritize and what makes them a good candidate. You will get that information in this article and links to their campaign websites. Also, please take the time to read through at least till the end of the 2nd section.
Major Candidates
Kamala Harris is the 47th vice-president of the US. Her policies include creating strict gun regulations, calling for abortion rights, continuing affirmative action in the country, investing in fighting climate change, aiding Ukraine in its war against Russia, lowering Medicare prices, protecting and enforcing the Deferred Action on Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, ending the death penalty, enforcing school attendance, calling for LGBTQ+ rights, providing disaster relief, and not supporting the USMCA (due to a belief that it does not address the "crises of the moment," climate change). Her running mate is Tim Walz, the governor of Minnesota.
Donald Trump was the 45th president of the US. He is the presumptive nominee of the Republican Party, and his policies are fighting against climate change legislation, increasing police power, showing skepticism towards some free trade agreements, supporting an “America First” foreign policy, drastic solutions to stopping illegal immigration (including building a wall along the US-Mexico border), rolling back many LGBTQ+ rights legislation, and supporting anti-abortion legislation. His running mate is J.D. Vance, a U.S. Senator representing Ohio.

Her running mate is Butch Ware, a historian from the University of California, and their ticket is listed as independent in Alabama, Alaska, Idaho, New Hampshire, and Ohio.
Chase Oliver is a sales account executive, activist, and politician. He is the nominee of the Libertarian Party, and his policies are protecting abortion rights, letting businesses deal with climate change, changing our system of elections from first-past-the-post to ranked-choice voting, supporting free trade, taking the U.S. out of foreign wars, and opening up legal immigration to an “Ellis Island-style.” His running mate is Mike ter Maat, a businessman, and their ticket is listed as independent in Alabama and North Dakota.
