Idalia is now a tropical storm after smashing through Florida, Georgia, and the Carolinas in one day, bringing life-threatening conditions to many places throughout the southeast. The storm made landfall in the Big Bend of Florida as a Category 3 storm with 125 mph winds and storm surge up to 16 feet, as well as heavy rain. As of Wednesday evening, over 175,000 people were still out of power in Florida, almost 200,000 in Georgia, and about 30,000 in South Carolina. Idalia brought rain as far north as Virginia during its rampage, but the storms just barely missed Atlanta. Cities like Jacksonville, Savannah, and Tampa took a huge hit, the latter of which received a brutal beating as Idalia made landfall. One person has been confirmed dead due to a falling tree, and winds also caused havoc across Florida and Georgia. A car was even flipped during the storm, and a 100 year-old tree fell over onto the governor's mansion in Florida. The storm's winds were so strong when it made landfall that the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration grounded their hurricane-hunting planes until the storm calmed.

On another note, Apple has officially announced that their next iPhone will come out on September 12 during their yearly event, which they are calling "Wonderlust." The new iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro are expected to be the first phones to switch to their latest USB-C charger, from the old lightning charger. The USB-C charger is currently being used for MacBooks, and it will provide much faster charging for the iPhones. The iPhone 15 will also come in new colors and have an improved camera, and Apple is also expected to launch new versions of the Apple Watch and Apple Watch Ultra.

Lastly, the super blue moon lit up skies around the world last night, providing us with a once-in-10-year celestial event. To read about what a supermoon and blue moon are, click here. When they combine, it lights up the night sky in a spectacular event, and the next one will be in 2037!
